Beth Shalom member Deb Garretson had a letter published in The Herald-Times earlier this week:

War as election issue

To the editor:

During this election year, let us ask our candidates to fund programs that can help prevent war.

Instead of sending another 100,000 young soldiers to war, ask candidates to:

provide sufficient funds to fill the 1,000 unfilled U.S. diplomatic positions around the world and to fully pay U.S. dues to the United Nations,

pay off the $1.9 billion in unpaid dues from previous years.

Instead of preparing to fight new wars, ask them to invest in peaceful prevention of conflict.
